Top Attractions

The Grand Canal
There are two wonders in China. One is the Great Wall and the other is the Grand Canal. For its size and grandeur, the Grand Canal has always been regarded as the pride of the Chinese people and as a symbol of Chinese cultural achievement. It has a history of over 2,500 years going back to as early as the 5th century BC and starting in Beijing and ending in Hangzhou.
West Lake
Among the world’s top-rated lakes, Hangzhou’s wondrous West Lake is one of the best. The real attraction of West Lake, however, lies not on the surface but in its abundant wealth of legend, myth, and enigma accumulated over various dynasties. Because of its historical and cultural significance, West Lake became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
Lingyin Temple
Lingyin Temple, also known as Temple of Soul's Retreat, is the most celebrated place of interest around West Lake and one of the top ten Buddhist temples of China. In 1961, it was listed for protection as a key provincial historical and cultural site and considered a leading center for research related to Chinese Buddhist culture.
Jiuqu Hongmei Longjing Black Tea
Jiuqu Hongmei ( jiǔ•qǔ hóng•méi ) 九曲紅梅, aka Red Plum Classic, Nine Bend Red Plum, Longjing Black Tea, Longjing Hongcha This is an unusual black tea made from the leaves of Longjing cultivars in areas around Hangzhou. The dry leaves of a fine Jiuqu Hongmei are tightly twisted into thin, brittle curls, matte black, with a hint of the distinctive citric smell of the plum. The liquor carries forth that aroma with the added depth of a black tea. This same fruit acidity is also in the lively and yet light taste, marking it a totally different character than the floral Fujian blacks or the malty and stronger Assam or Yunnan. The acidity and sweetness are balanced with a unique but slight astringency that is more like an oolong than a black.
